Raitman Art - Vail

Our galleries are adorned with artwork that is unique, well executed and uplifting. We show only original pieces, save for some sculptural works created as limited editions. The overwhelming majority of the works in our collection are created by living, working, professional American artists. We prefer contemporary representational works that capture the beauty of the mountains we call home, along with abstracts that push creativity to new heights. We only represent artists who have truly mastered their unique mediums and styles. Through their creative brilliance, each artist shown in our galleries has been rewarded with well regarded national and international reputations. The majority are featured in major public collections, from those of museums to Fortune 100 companies. Our refined selection of artists sees that our collection represents our region and our love for the mountains. This is always immediately apparent upon entering our galleries. Years of observing and collecting art for our own homes, as well as our galleries, makes our taste sophisticated and highly educated. We find that art should represent place and memories. Brushstrokes shall speak of beautiful moments. Colors and materials shall preserve our amazing world. Art ought to, above all, make us smile. It should make us remember, sometimes, even make us cry. Thus, a great deal of thought is put into every piece we choose to show to our visitors. The artists we represent are like family to us. They often spend the weekend in our home when they come to demonstrate in our galleries. We love sharing stories about each of our artists. Our passion for their work and their personalities makes our galleries special places to visit. The fact that the artists frequently visit and create new works while in our galleries brings our collector's experiences to the next level. Visitors to our galleries are always impressed by our knowledge of the materials, workmanship and time that goes into each piece we show. Every piece we show is one of a kind, so we find the process to be a wonderful part of the story. Educating viewers is an integral part of the art world and we enjoy it thoroughly. Timeless artwork makes our world beautiful. We find few greater joys than helping you turn your home into a sanctuary, where the artwork you select speaks of your journeys. Every work of art ought to tell a story. We are thrilled to share ours with you. So are our artists. Thank you for participating in our beautiful world.

Our galleries were founded in Breckenridge, Colorado by us, the Raitman family. We opened our first Breckenridge gallery as Art on a Whim in December of 2007. We expanded our space in November of 2011 and opened our Vail location in November of 2013. In June of 2017 we opened our third location, on the south end of downtown Breckenridge. Spring of 2018 features a big move in Vail, from 1,300 square feet of gallery space to 3,000 square feet filled with incredible artwork. Growth; stemming from fantastic relationships with you, our collectors, has been a big part of our business.

In November of 2016, we changed the name of our galleries to reflect one of our core principles: family business. Raitman Art Galleries reflects the pride we share as a family for our carefully curated collection of fine works of art. We consider so many of our collectors our extended family. We are so blessed to do so.

We are rooted in the age-old American tradition of small, family-run businesses. We love where we live so all of the contemporary art we show is handmade in America and most of it is created right here in Colorado. We also feature historical pieces from around the world. The art we show is impeccable in quality and we are continually working to provide the most beautiful art collection around. Both in taste and clientele, our reach extends far beyond our mountain towns. We have fostered a collector base that extends to every continent, save Antarctica.

The Team

Brian Raitman:

The oldest of the Raitman sons, Brian started his first business at the age of fifteen. He founded a music promotion company, turned it into a record label and quickly gained international acclaim for his label and his bands. Marketing and art seem to have always been in his blood. He graduated from Temple University in 2007 with a degree in Advertising and a minor in Business with a focus on Entrepreneurship. He "bought" his first painting at the age of seven, a piece he convinced his parents to commission of him walking down a boat dock with their dog Coco. He has traveled the entirety of the United States to look at art and loves calling Colorado home. When he's not in the galleries you can find him on a trail or a river, skiing, hiking or rafting.

Ross Raitman:

The middle of the Raitman sons, Ross graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2008 with a degree in Architectural Engineering. Upon realizing that living in Breckenridge (and more recently Vail) and meeting our amazing clients is way more fun than working as an engineer, Ross became a partner in the galleries in 2009. His engineering degree serves our clients well, as he ensures that no shipment is too challenging to pack, lighting in the galleries is always perfect and logistics are a breeze. His studious nature means he can explain every intricate detail in every piece in our galleries, from the materials used to the process with which the piece was created. Ross loves skiing, hiking, playing soccer, rafting, and golfing. Ross grew up ski racing, so living in the mountains is an obvious fit!

Dena Raitman:

Dena is affectionately called "Mom" for obvious reasons by Ross and Brian, as well as many of our clients who meet Brian and Ross before Dena. Dena is also a Temple University alumnus and spent the majority of her working life with special needs students. Prior to that, she sold art through auction houses in the Philadelphia area. She is an avid art collector and was the driving force behind the inception of our galleries. She currently works a few days a month in the galleries and golfs quite a bit, trying to drag her husband Mike with her when he's not working. Dena also loves to hike and travel, which her sons are quick to encourage her to do.

Michael Raitman:

Michael is one of the founding members of the galleries. He has a bachelor's degree from Drexel University and a master's from Villanova University in Electrical/Software Engineering. An avid art collector like Dena (though they don't need each others permission to purchase a piece!), Mike appreciates frequent updates on the galleries while he works in his engineering field. You might find him in either gallery on the weekends and there is a good chance that he packed your shipment or is heading your way to install a large piece for you. Mike loves to golf and ski. Mostly golf. He's probably on the course right now, trading putts with Dena.

Bailey was our eldest pup. He was born in April of 2001 and passed in January of 2015. He was a Penn-Marydel American Foxhound often mistaken for a giant beagle (which is funny because Beagles are Foxhounds bred to be smaller). Bailey loved sacking out on his beds in the galleries. He'd follow our clients around providing kisses, especially if you had lotion on!

Ginger is our middle pup. We rescued her, or she rescued us, in 2006 and believe she was born in August of 2005. She passed in September of 2017. Ginger was a Trigg American Foxhound. Ginger was an absolute sweetheart who liked to get into trouble. She was often too smart for her own good. She loved having her belly rubbed and taking long hikes.

Booker is still our puppy. Born on March 26th, 2013, he is also an American Foxhound. He has bundles of energy and loves attention. His older brother and sister taught him how to behave in the galleries and have shown him that selling a big piece calls for a big treat!
