Point of Sedona Gallery

Sedona artist Douglas Edward Andrews has owned and operated POINT OF SEDONA GALLERY for over 30 years. A native of Pennsylvania Douglas was raised hiking and camping in the Allegheny Mountains and always had a deep love of nature. His grandfather, father and brother also reveled in the outdoors, crisp mountain air, rushing streams and the sunlight tumbling down craggy cliffs. These naturally became his favored subjects as he developed his artistic talents at a very young age. Andrews recalls that during Art 1 class was when he recognized his talents. Doug earned a football and track scholarship at Edinboro University where he received an Art Education and Fine Arts degree. During this period he was active in one-man shows displaying his artwork in many of the universities as well as shows throughout the states. It was then he became widely recognized for his incredible talent, which inspired him to continue with his art. After graduating he taught school for what he remembers as "three wonderful years of my life." While teaching, painting, sculpting and drawing, Doug found himself with a heart full of passion and a desire to get back to his painting. Upon receiving a grant to work on his Master's degree at The Arizona State University, Doug gave up the security of his prominent teaching position and moved to Arizona. After working towards his degree, Doug found his needs still not being met- torn between formal education and his need for self-development. It was then that he turned to nature and his brush full time. Many of Doug's first collectors remember his first gallery The Point. He had bought The Point, an old abandoned restaurant in the mouth of beautiful Oak Creek canyon. Combining his vision and with his unique talents he built this gallery constructed with all nature's own materials, such as Arizona cypress and alligator juniper. With the help of some of Arizona's homesteading families Andrews took an eyesore and created a canyon castle. The Point was an exclusive gallery, showing only Andrew's work and in 1988 it became self-supporting for the hard-working young artist. Andrew's gallery and much of his art are framed in the same natural materials which comprised his former home and studio and also his now home and retreat in Oak Creek canyon. One of his most popular creations found only in his gallery are cacti planted in native stone which he calls "Gems of the Desert." Doug works in different mediums, original oil and watercolors, local stone, juniper and manzanita wood and hundred year old saguaro cactus. Andrews's original oil or watercolor paintings are reproduced as GICLEE'S in limited edition and available only in his gallery. Doug's love of nature combined with his attention to detail and bold colors attract collectors throughout the United States and abroad. Clients and visitors as well become mesmerized by his works, his attention to detail and God given talent. POINT OF SEDONA GALLERY is 100% made in the USA.
